BERR, along with other public sector organisations, is required to comply with the Race and Disability Equality Duties to actively promote equality of opportunity. BERR also complies with the Gender Equality Duty which became law in April 2007.
Below are details to the individual Equality Schemes that provide the frameworks by which we are working to implement the duties. The documentation may be downloaded from the links in the right-hand column.
BERR's Race Equality Scheme for 2007 - 2008 outlines how we will meet our legal obligations under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. We are committed to fulfilling our public duty to promote race equality in all relevant functions. Through the Scheme, we aim to make consideration of race equality an integral part of our policy making and service delivery for the benefit of all our customers and staff.
BERR's Disability Equality Scheme outlines how we will meet our legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, as amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. The scheme works in a similar way to the corresponding race scheme. To view the scheme in .pdf format, click on the link on the right-hand side.

BERR's Equality Scheme sets out how we will meet our legal obligations under the Gender Equality Duty, as set out in the Equality Act 2006. It also seeks to cover our approach to considering equality of opportunity for age, religion and belief and sexual orientation in the services we supply. The scheme works in a similar way to the corresponding race and disability schemes, and is designed to be read alongside them.
