Please note the BIS Business Plan 2008-11 was drawn up prior to the transfer of responsibility for energy policy from the former BERR to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on 3 October 2008. It therefore contains details of two Departmental Strategic Objectives (relating to energy security and supply, and managing energy liabilities) which are now the responsibility of the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
BIS central purpose is to help ensure business success in this increasingly competitive world and at a time when British business is facing tough challenges.
BIS supports business and enterprise. We champion better regulation. We promote free and fair markets in the EU and globally. And we act as shareholder for the Government in economically significant businesses.
BIS has also been given a clear mandate to be the voice for business across Government. We work with the lead departments on issues of central importance to business. These include: innovation, taxation, skills, migration, planning and transport.
