Organisation, skills and culture change
BERR has been engaging in a programme of leadership development, strengthening its corporate performance, and in renewed efforts to improve the strategic engagement between the department and its delivery partners.
To fulfil BERR’s new remit to be the voice for business across Government, we know that we need to:
- Improve how we listen to business and how we share that information across our organisation
- Use our own analysis and insight to help develop a clear understanding of the priority issues which impact on the UK’s future economic prospects
- Engage constructively with departments in Whitehall, across the regions and Europe and internationally to ensure policy supports UK economic growth
- Deliver real outcomes for business and share those successes with the business community.
In response, we have decided to focus on the following:
- A programme to further develop the skills of our people, including a better understanding of business, and
- New ways of working within the Department to engage more effectively with business and share our understanding
- Creating a dedicated unit to support our cross-Whitehall role
