In order to evaluate the effectiveness of historic policy developments in corporate governance and to assess the likely impact of new initiatives it is essential to develop a comprehensive and rigorous evidence base which is grounded in high quality policy oriented research. Such research needs to be cross disciplinary in nature and make the best use possible of networks of academics, policy makers and practitioners.
Our aim is to stimulate further policy oriented research in the UK focussing on both domestic and international issues. To this end we aim to fund specific projects as well as facilitate networks of researchers, in both the public and private sectors.
The following pages contain information on both current and future projects and other research initiatives either funded or supported in other ways by the DTI. It also contains links to recent publications and active researchers in the field of corporate governance.
In the future we hope that this site will be used a forum in which all those involved in corporate governance research can exchange ideas and develop new projects and initiatives.
If you would like your name added to the list of active researchers or you have initiatives you would like us to highlight please contact mailto:fiona.hodkinson@berr.gsi.gov.uk
Identifying the Key Drivers of 'Good' Corporate Governance and the Appropriateness of UK Policy Responses
This project was commissioned by the DTI and commenced in October 2005. It was undertaken by a team from the Department of Management, King's College London. The aim of the study was to undertake a detailed review of the social science literature on corporate governance, identify key 'drivers' or mechanisms that are seen as promoting 'good' corporate governance and map and evaluate the aforementioned policy initiatives with reference to these drivers.
