Information for small businesses on regulation and tax and Guidance for Departments to help embed the "think small first" principle into new regulations.

  • Information for small businesses on regulation and tax can be found on the Government's dedicated website for business at www.businesslink.gov.uk.
  • The Government is committed to embed the "think small first" principle into all new policy development.  To enable it to do so, it needs the help of small businesses.  The following pages invite small business to "have their say" on proposed new regulations by joining the Small Firms Consultation Database.
  • Other information in this section covers guidance for Departments to help embed the "think small first" principle into new regulations.

The Enterprise Directorate works with policymakers in Whitehall and elsewhere to help assess the impact proposals could have on Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Most policy proposals which impact on business will also impact on small firms either directly or indirectly. The Enterprise Directorate looks for ways to implement policy that is 'friendly' to both small business and enterprise, and which allows for successful compliance.
