The Better Regulation Executive (BRE) has introduced clearer guidance to help businesses understand what new regulations apply to them, which ones don’t and what changes are happening to existing regulations.
Following the Hampton Review, the BRE now produces a clear summary of any new or updated regulations, plus links to more detailed information. This means businesses can quickly establish what will affect them, and what they need to do to comply.
The guidance is produced twice a year, on 6 April and 1 October, when government departments outline any changes to their regulations on the Business Link website. These are known as Common Commencement Dates (CCDs).
Previously, the information that was released on these days was not being read by businesses, as it was too long and complex. The new guidance simplifies the regulations and sets out which types of business are affected by them.
The BRE is working to make businesses aware of the new guidance, so they remember to check it on or around the two CCDs.
Business associations now include information in their bulletins and newsletters, while Companies House is mailing businesses on its database to drive traffic to Business Link.
