Consultation on amending the Hallmarking Act 1973 in respect of articles made of mixed metals and to extend the exemption from hallmarking to goods made prior to 1950
Starting Date: 08-08-06
Closing Date: 31-10-06
This consultation sought views on proposals to amend the Hallmarking Act 1973 (Chapter 43) in two respects:
• to permit a wider range of articles made from combinations of different and distinct precious metals (gold, silver and platinum) and different combinations of precious metals and other materials to be hallmarked.
• to extend the current exemption from hallmarking from goods of precious metal made prior to 1920 to goods of precious metal made prior to 1950. The consultation closed on 31 October 2006 and was followed by a limited consultation on amendments to the exemption provisions in the 1973 Act as they apply to articles of mixed precious metals and mixed precious metals and other materials.
