Following the announcement by the Secretary of State on 30 March 2006 that he has decided that the price control approach to the regulation of transmission which applies onshore should be extended offshore, the then DTI informed interested parties on 29 May that as a result of his decision the Secretary of State is also minded to extend the role of the current onshore GB System Operator (GBSO) - occupied by National Grid - offshore.
In setting out his intention, the Secretary of State invited interested parties to indicate to him in writing if they have any comments on this proposed way forward, whether in terms of practicalities or the principles underlying this approach within one month.
The Secretary of State received eight responses to his statement and on 2 August 2006 issued a statement confirming National Grid as offshore GBSO Designate.
