BERR Research project on street trading and certified pedlary

In June 2008 BERR launched a summer long research project to gather stakeholders’ views on the legislation currently regulating street trading and pedlary. The project concludes in the autumn.

Over the summer St Chad’s College, Durham, has been contacting local councils, the police, street traders, certified pedlars, and consumer organisations in England, Wales and Scotland to learn more about their views.

There is also a BERR emailbox to which views can be submitted streettradingandpedlaryresearch@berr.gsi.gov.uk

By the end of the project BERR aims to have gained a more complete perspective on street trading and pedlary and to better understand what national action, if any, might be taken in future to balance the interests of business, consumers and pedlars
