Strategic Reviews of the NMS

The former DTI conducted a Strategic Review of the NMS in 2005-2006. The report and annexes of the Review were published in March 2006. Click the links on the right to view.

The objective of the 2005-2006 Review was to make recommendations on the strategic direction of the NMS in order to meet the present, medium and longer-term needs of the NMS and its stakeholders and users. The Review considered:

• The structure of the NMS programme portfolio;
• The balance and priorities of DTI’s expenditure on the NMS;
• The potential for improvements in the formulation, management, impact and evaluation of NMS programmes; and
• Appropriate advisory structures

The recommendations of the Review were accepted by DTI. Implementation is ongoing.

A previous strategic review in 1999 (PA Consulting’s Review of the Rationale for and Economic Benefit of the UK NMS) concentrated on measuring the impact of the DTI’s NMS programmes and their contribution to the UK economy. Click the link on the right to view.
