Standards activities

We provide direct financial support for BSI Standards, and also support towards both industry experts' and consumers' participation in standards writing. We influence the production of standards to meet business needs through membership of the BSI Standards Board. We also co-ordinate the interests of different government departments via a Standards Policy Committee and develop the Government's policy on standards.
We discharge the Department's general responsibility for the removal of barriers to trade by acting as the UK central contact point for the EC notification system for the provision of information on technical regulations.
We support the conformity assessment infrastructure including sponsorship of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
