National Science and Engineering Week
National Science and Engineering Week takes place from 9-18 March 2007. Coordinated by the British Association for the Advancement of Science (the BA) on behalf of the DTI, National Science and Engineering Week is a nationwide celebration of science, engineering and innovation. It consists of a widely diverse programme of events, hosted by a organisations as wide-ranging as research institutes, university departments, science-based businesses, museums, art galleries and schools. These events help to engage and inspire the public about science, engineering, innovation and their implications.

Universal Ethical Code for ScientistsFollowing a successful pilot, Sir David King, Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Head of the Office of Science and Innovation, will be issuing a challenge to the wider scientific community to adopt Rigour, Respect and Responsibility - a Universal Ethical Code for Scientists. Part of National Science and Engineering Week 2007, Sir David's talk will be of interest to those involved in science at all levels: education, research and science-based industry. Launch Conference of the New Dynamics of Ageing Research Programme
This prestigious event is the most important national discussion of ageing
research to have been held in the UK for many years. It will be the launching
pad for the NDA Programme and will introduce the first projects to be funded,
showcase UK research on ageing, consider the key challenges facing ageing
research and ensure that the perspectives of key user groups are front-lined.

RIN Workshop on RIN/DTI/RCUK Evidence-based Analysis of Data on Scholarly Journal Publishing
The purpose of this workshop is to present and explain the conclusions of the recently published 'Scholarly Journals Baseline Report 2006,' to consider the key lessons to be drawn from it, particularly in relation to the development of UK public policy; and to lay the basis for a plan of action about how such issues might be addressed in practice.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday 14th November, 2006, 13.00 - 16.00, at the Royal Institute of Public Health, 28 Portland Place, London, W1.

Science and Innovation, their relative roles in the UK research base and wealth creation in the UK
The UK Research Base Funders Forum will be holding their second Plenary conference, entitled 'Science and Innovation, their relative roles in the UK research base and wealth creation in the UK', at the Royal Society on the morning of 27 November 2006. Speakers include Malcolm Wicks (DTI Minister for Science and Innovation), Lord Alec Broers (RAEng), Mike Walker (Vodafone), Bob Boucher (VC Sheffield Univ.), Anne Glover (Amadeus Capital) and Wendy Hall (Southampton Univ.).
