International Energy Agency (IEA)
The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an energy organisation connected to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which has 27 member countries. Its research, analysis and publications help to inform the development of policy on reliable, affordable and clean energy. Its remit is based on the “Three E’s” of balanced energy policy making: energy security, economic development and environmental protection.
In October 2007, Willy Rickett, Director General of Energy at BERR took over as Chair of the Governing Board. Current work of the IEA focuses on the following key issues:
- energy market reform;
- climate change;
- energy technology collaboration; and
- outreach to the rest of the world, especially major consumers and producers of energy like China, India, Russia and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) countries.
We continue to work closely with the IEA and its members across the full range of its responsibilities.
