Renewable Energy Statement of Need for Transmission System Upgrade
On 21 July 2005 the Minister for Energy Malcolm Wicks made a statement to the House on the interaction of existing Government policy and planning procedures, with regard to the need for new energy infrastructure, arising from the targets, goals and aspirations for renewable generation set out in the 2003 Energy White Paper, "Our Energy Future - creating a low carbon economy".
The note sets out the broad principles guiding the Government policy on the need for new energy infrastructure and considers in more detail the broad infrastructure requirements that are likely to be met if UK energy policy is to be delivered, including, where possible, guidance on where the infrastructure is likely to need to be located for electricity generation from renewable energy sources.
It is intended to provide assistance as a material consideration of significant weight in planning decisions on energy infrastructure."
