The Northern Ireland Assembly, as outlined in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment’s Strategic Energy Framework 2004, has a development target that, by 2012, 12 per cent of all electricity consumed in Northern Ireland should come from indigenous, renewable energy sources.
Work is also under way to implement a Renewables Obligation scheme in Northern Ireland from April 2005, and also to ensure that the Renewables Obligation Certificates will be mutually recognised within the Renewables Obligation operating in England and Wales, and the Renewables Obligation Scotland (ROS) Order 2002 .
