Temporary Duty Suspensions and Tariff Quotas allow the duty free importation into the Community of raw materials, components and semi-finished products which cannot be supplied (or supplied in sufficient quantities) from Community sources and used in a process to make another product. NB This regime cannot be used simply to import goods for resale.
Suspensions allow unlimited quantities to be imported into the EU whereas quotas allow limited quantities to be imported.
Existing duty suspensions and quotas
If your product is covered by an existing suspension or quota, it is not necessary to make a new request. You will find details of existing suspensions and quotas in the in the Official Journals of the European Communities which can be accessed via the related documents and external links sections on the right of this page.
Prolongation of current duty suspensions
A number of duty suspensions are due to expire at the end of 2008. The European Commission have begun a review to determine whether they should be prolonged for a further 5 years. For further details on what to do if you use a tariff suspension that you want to be renewed please view the prolongation page by using the link on the left
