Nanotechnology
It is predicted that by 2014, $2.6 trillion in manufactured goods will incorporate nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology provides a significant opportunity to address global challenges. This is leading to intense global competition to commercialise different products enabled by nanotechnology. UK industry is well placed to capitalise on this opportunity and participate in the development of many new products and services by operating alone or in collaboration with international partners. Today, nanotechnology is evolving with some mature products but many new products remain in the growth and developmental stage. Products are now available in markets ranging from consumer products and medical products through to plastics and coatings and electronics products.
MM is also active with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) working parties on all the related issues surrounding nanotechnology such as public engagement, standards, materials characterisation, environmental, health and safety and the business environment.
