Employment Market Analysis and Research (EMAR) publications, reports and research, including background to the Workplace Employment Relations Survey
Employment Market Analysis and Research (EMAR) is as a team of economists, social researchers and statisticians.
Their role is to provide the evidence base for good policy making in employment relations, labour market and equality and discrimination at work. They do this through:
- conducting periodic socio-economic benchmark surveys
- commissioning external research projects and reports
- conducting in-house research and analysis
- assessing the regulatory impact of new employment laws and programmes
- monitoring and evaluating of the impact of government policies

EMARs research results are publicly disseminated through the Employment Relations Research Series. All reports are available to download free-of-charge.

Data Sets
To facilitate secondary research and to preserve its data for the future EMAR deposits its major survey datasets with the UK Data Archive (UKDA). Researchers, students and teachers from any field, organisation or country may register with the UKDA to download datasets and supporting documentation.

Carrying out research projects
Research projects are normally contracted out to independent research organisations, academics and consultancies following a competitive tendering process. The Department welcomes expressions of interest in specific projects, but these must demonstrate research experience of direct relevance to the particular project. The Department reserves the right to draw up its own lists of potential contractors, and submission of an expression of interest does not guarantee receipt of an invitation to tender.
