1. Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team
Bioscience 2015 - a report by the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team (BIGT) (2003) A large number of senior people from Bioscience companies, Government Departments, Trade Associations, financial institutions, universities and research bodies were involved in the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team. Its role was to advise Government on how to improve the competitiveness of UK bioscience and harness advances in the sector for patient benefit. The BIGT’s vision is that by 2015, the UK will have secured its position as a global leader in bioscience.

In vivo sciences in the UK: sustaining the supply of skills in the 21st century (2007). In response to BIGT recommendations and reports by the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and others, this report was published by ABPI and the Biosciences Federation and recommends actions to maintain a supply of world-class skills and expertise that is needed to drive and implement new scientific discoveries.
2. Healthcare Industries Task Force (HITF)
Better Health through Partnership – a programme for action (2004) This report of the Healthcare Industries Task Force provides a programme of action aimed at benefiting patients and the NHS and stimulating science and industry in the UK to improve growth in manufacturing, investment, employment and exports.
Innovation for Health – making a difference (2007). Report of the HITF Strategic Implementation Group (SIG) on progress towards implementation of the recommendations in HITF's report "Better health through partnership: A programme for action”
The new Ministerial Medical Technology Strategy Group (MMTSG) was established in 2007 to take forward the SIG recommendations and provide a strategic forum for joint discussion of other issues of importance.
3. Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force (PICTF)
Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force Report (2001) The PICTF report identified steps to be taken to strengthen the competitiveness of the UK business environment for the pharmaceutical industry. The Ministerial Industry Strategy Group (MISG), a high-level group bringing together government and pharmaceutical industry representatives, was set up in 2001 , as part of the follow-up to the PICTF report. Subsequent reports, including the Competitiveness and Performance Indicators, can be found on the Department of Health website
Long-Term leadership strategy (2007) This was established by MISG with the broad aims of developing a long term strategy for medicines designed to: secure the provision of safe and effective medicines for patients; maintain and strengthen the UK pharmaceutical industry within Europe; and to advance healthcare innovation in the UK.
