Industry improvement and good practice

The construction industry improvement agenda, based on Rethinking Construction principles, is central to the work of Construction Sector Unit.

We work closely with a range of organisations to help drive improvement in built environment industries, including the Strategic Forum for Construction, and Constructing Excellence (CE). Constructing Excellence is a non-profit making organisation aiming to deliver a streamlined approach to the delivery of construction industry reform. Constructing Excellence offers the industry a first point of contact for information and activities on construction improvement techniques.

CSU is keen to promote good practice too, in all areas connected with the construction process; from innovatory processes, services and techniques, to design quality, procurement, and people aspects. Our aim is to help improve overall industry performance. Some organisations have shown a real business benefit from what they have done. In other cases, initiatives are new and have yet to bear fruit.

The value of case studies and demonstration projects is that they illustrate possible alternative approaches that others might learn from. They can point to what does, or does not work. We are including here links to a limited number of examples to illustrate where new approaches have been tried. BERR does not necessarily support a particular programme or project, or the organisation concerned.
