Construction Products and Regulations Impact Team

The Construction Sector Unit is part of the government’s Business Relations Directorate, within the Unit are dedicated teams specialising in specific areas of construction.  Construction Products (CP) and regulations work objectives involve:  

  • Working closely with other government departments, trade associations, regional offices, research organisations and individual industrial companies, to ensure that the industries legitimate interests and aspirations are appropriately reflected in policy.
  • Acquiring and developing our knowledge base with key contacts to assist with understanding the sectors and influences on business performance. 
  • Encouraging activities aimed at improving competitiveness through innovation, training, health and safety and customer satisfaction. 
  • Promoting the adoption of sustainable construction with emphasis on environmental performance. 
  • Ensuring that European Union issues affecting the sector’s interests are pursued and reflected in government activities in Brussels.      

The Construction Products and Impact Regulations Team is the point of contact for sector concerns and issues in selected areas covering: aggregates, cement, concrete, concrete products, clay products, glass, mineral wool, plaster and plasterboard, roofing, stone and timber.

Building Services

Building Services section of the team covers contact with the manufacturing sectors of  Lighting, Entertainment Technology (the combining of lighting and sound), Electrical installation products – (switch boxes, fuses, wiring and plugs) Plumbing, Heating, Ventilating, Air conditioning and Refrigeration.

The team is contact point for the sectors concerns and issues affecting the sectors.  The team also liaises with DCLG in connection with the Building Regulations. The team has regular contact with sectoral Trade Associations FETA, PHIA, SBGI, BEAMA Installation, PLASA, and LA.
