The Joint DCMS/BERR/DIUS Creative Economy Strategy Paper was launched on 22 February 2008.
These are industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. BERR works closely with Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), who are the sponsors for film, broadcasting, performing arts and music industries, and coordinate policy on creative industries in Whitehall.
BERR and DCMS have set up a Creative Industries Forum on Intellectual Property, which is a cross government (including Ministers) and industry group to address the issue of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The objective is to identify and develop a shared Government/industry approach for addressing priority IPR issues.
Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, the former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, delivered a keynote speech on the Creative Industries. The speech is available from the download area.
The Technology Strategy Board announced on 30 January 2008 a call for digital applications in the creative industries. Further information about the funding process and requirement can be found on the Technology Programme section of this web site
