Sources of information

There is a wealth of information available to designers but the problem is to know where the information is located and what value to put on it. The aim of these pages is to lay out the basic steps that designers need to go through before the machines are placed on the market and to identify the main sources of useful information, namely:-

The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (as amended) and the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC.

Associated UK Regulations that may have to be complied with, as indicated in Regulation 10 of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (as amended), and the EU Directives that are the source for the associated UK Regulations.

Other UK Regulations and EU Directives that may apply to machines and products covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 (as amended) - such as the EMC Regulations.

Registers of UK and EEA Notified Bodies.

Worker Protection Regulations that may have an impact on the design and manufacture of the machine.

Access to guidance produced by BERR, HSE, European Commission, The European Standards Bodies CEN and CENELEC.

More information on the current state of the regulations and publications can be obtained from our Technical Regulations web pages.
