WEEE Advisory Body

WEEE Advisory Body (WAB)

The Government announced on 3 December 2007 the creation of an independent non-governmental public body on the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

Announcing the new board, Malcolm Wicks, Minister for Energy, said: “Since the UK adopted the WEEE directive a great deal has been achieved by making sure more waste is collected for treatment and recovery. The establishment of the advisory body will ensure we receive expert advice and to help us build on this initial success. I very much look forward to working with the board in the future.”

Members were appointed on an independent basis to represent particular areas/fields of expertise and experience relevant to the WEEE Regulations, rather than as delegates of particular organisations or interest groups.

The WAB consists of 13 individuals from various industry sectors and will provide independent advice for the development of the WEEE system.

For further information on the Chair and members see the document on the right hand side.

Meetings

The inaugural meeting of the WAB will take place at 1 Victoria Street Conference Centre on Thursday 3 April.

The WAB will meet at least quarterly at BERR Conference Centre.  Additional meetings will be convened by the Chair when it is considered appropriate and necessary.

Information on forthcoming meeting dates and notes of the induction event - see WAB Meetings

Stakeholder update

The WAB Terms of Reference have been approved by the Minister.  The roles and responsibilities of the WAB are set out in the operational and governance framework.

Following the meeting on 28 February, the WAB agreed the work implementation plan.  This is a working document which will be updated as necessary.

All documents can be downloaded from the right hand side.

Papers and minutes arising from this event and from any future meetings will also be published on the website. It is intended that approved minutes will be published within 4 weeks.
