Making BERR more Sustinable

Many of BERR's policy areas make a direct contribution to the Governments sustainability agenda, eg: The energy white paper, Sustainable Construction, Retail and the Environmental Innovations Advisory Group (EIAG).

However BERR also has a significant contribution to make to sustainable development through good estate management. As well as being a vital contribution to the environment. Sustainable operations also help deliver good value for money and efficient public sector.

Central Government targets set out priority areas for action intended to drive improvements in the way that Departments manage their land and buildings. Progress against these targets is monitored by the Sustainable Development Commission BERR is committed to doing everything it can to maintain and improve our performance.

As well as encouraging staff to think about their travel requirements and arrangements with a view to travelling more sustainable. BERR also uses the UK Government Carbon Offsetting Fund (GOSF) to offset its air travel. GOSF will offset the emissions of participating Departments to April 2009.
