Improving regulated information is about making life easier for everyone, without removing the necessary protection that it provides.
The Better Regulation Executive (BRE) aims to make consumer information more accessible, so people can make better-informed decisions. This means producing information in clear, plain English and keeping it as short as possible, while retaining everything people need to make an accurate judgement.
The BRE is involved in a range of projects to help consumers access the information they need, without overwhelming people with unnecessary and complex detail.
In collaboration with the National Consumer Council, the BRE has made recommendations to increase the effectiveness of regulated information and ensure information is only used when it can help consumers make choices.
This review considers simplifying consumer protection legislation in the UK and the European Union, improving the targeting of enforcement and increasing consumer empowerment.
We need to hear the views of the public to make a difference where it matters.
If you have ideas that will improve regulation and make life easier for consumers and the public as a whole, please submit them at Better Regulation.
