Simplification Plans

“We are on track to meet our target of achieving approximately £3.4bn of net annual savings for business by 2010”

Rt. Hon. Lord Mandelson
Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform

Progress in 2008

Reducing administrative burdens for business is an integral part of the Government’s ambitious regulatory reform agenda. Departments are making huge efforts to identify and get rid of unnecessary bureaucracy for businesses, large and small, across all sectors.

‘Making your life simpler - Simplification Plans A Summary’ outlines the achievements Government has made in reducing the burden of regulation on businesses, charities and voluntary organisations, as well as on public sector front line staff.

This report will explain how Government has:

  • delivered 240 separate measures reducing administrative burdens, saving business and third sectors organisations an estimated £1.9bn each year;
  • worked with bodies to challenge and validate the top administrative burden reductions delivered to date to make sure they make a real difference for business on the ground;
  • reduced the impact of regulation on small businesses, charity and voluntary organisations, as well as on public sector front line staff; and
  • worked across Europe to simplify international regulation.
