BERR has an ambitious programme to cut red tape. Our aim is a clearer, simpler regulatory environment for business through quantifiable reductions in regulatory burdens, while maintaining protections for the public, consumers and employees.
Our simplification plan sets out a target to achieve a 25% reduction in administrative burdens on business (including paperwork and compliance).
To achieve these results, we’re implementing recommendations from the Arculus report on simplification, regulatory reform and reducing administrative burdens (using the Dutch Standard Cost Model).
We’re also taking forward the Hampton recommendations to achieve more efficient and less burdensome inspections and enforcement through a risk-based approach.
Our Better Regulation Programme Board is chaired by the Director General of BERR’s Fair Markets Group, and includes representation from business, the Better Regulation Executive and the Better Regulation Commission.
