The OFT published its report on the UK airports market on 12 December 2006.
While the focus of the report was related to the functions of the independent competition authorities - and led to a reference of BAA to the Competition Commission - the report made the following recommendations to Government:
• Government should publish criteria for de-designation of airports
• the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) should advise the Department for Transport (DfT) whether to de-designate Manchester airport before the statutory price control reference to the Competition Commission (CC) is due
• Government should consider transferring decisions on designation to the CAA.
Government responded on [date] and a copy of the response and the accompanying written ministerial statement can be found on the right.
