In the past the Department commissioned research in to a number of safety issues - usually those associated with the home, and collected data on accidents under the Home Accident Surveillance System (HASS) and Leisure Accident Surveillance System (LASS).
The research ceased in 2003, when we also ended collection of the HASS and LASS statistics, and our enquiry service based on the HASS/LASS database.
The HASS/LASS database has been transferred to RoSPA and all enquiries about HASS and LASS statistics should be addressed to RoSPA at:

We have PDF versions of some of the old DTI safety research reports and these may still be of interest. They are listed on the right. No printed copies are available.
Important: Please note that the research and contact information in the reports may, by now, be well out of date. Also note that the three publications mentioned in some reports about child, adult and older adult anthropometric and physical strength data (‘Childata’, ‘Adultdata’ and ‘Older Adultdata’) are no longer available.
We are unable to answer further questions about these old reports.
