Environmental Transformation Fund (ETF): Q & A

How do I apply for funding under the ETF?

The ETF itself will not be open for funding requests. Instead, schemes funded by the ETF, such as those operated by the Carbon Trust and BERR, will be publicised via their websites and in the usual ways when funding becomes available.

Why are you publishing an ETF Strategy?

The Strategy sets out a coherent view of how the UK ETF sits within the wider framework for low carbon innovation, the purpose of the fund, and how the fund will operate.

The Strategy will primarily be of interest to stakeholders and other organisations working in this area. It does not aim to provide detail of the projects the fund will support.

The ETF Strategy does not say what technologies the ETF will invest in going forward?

This is a strategy for the long term operation of the ETF, setting out the rationale for its existence and how it will complete the innovation landscape. It does not specify the investments ETF will be making in the short term.

Are you closing the Marine Renewable Deployment Fund (MRDF) or any of the other existing programmes?

As stated in the 2007 Energy white paper: meeting the energy challenge, progress towards full commercialisation of wave and tidal technologies has been slower than expected. As a result the MRDF has moved to an open all basis so it can fund proposals at any time. But it is right that we keep this and other schemes under review to ensure that they are the most appropriate tools to helping these technologies develop and factors in changes to the Renewables Obligation.
