UK Government support for the Global Threat Reduction Programme, is overseen by a Ministerial and Officials Oversight Boards chaired by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. These Boards ensure that all the work is provided with strong political oversight and strategic direction, both in terms of future priorities, and that there is an appropriate public and Parliamentary profile for the Programme.
While the Oversight Board provides the overall strategic direction for the programme, the selection and implementation of projects is the responsibility of technical steering groups. These make full use of the expertise across Government and independent technical advisors to manage the individual programme areas, and advise on priorities and selection of projects. Both Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and MOD have experienced teams overseeing the management of the UK’s Global Threat Reduction Programme project portfolio by highly skilled private sector project managers. These project managers are selected by open international competition, in accordance with European Commission Directive on Procurement.
