Welcome to the non-proliferation section of this website that describes how DECC is actively promoting non-proliferation on behalf of the UK with Nuclear, Chemical and Biological weapons both nationally and internationally.

DECC is committed to tackling the international global threat created by the international Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Legacies that also pose an important environmental challenge.

This non-Proliferation section of the website is divided in to three distinct sections – Nuclear; Chemical and Biological; and Global Threat Reduction where more detailed information may be found in the sub-menu located beneath this menu item to the left of this text.

DECC seeks to put into practice and confirm in the United Kingdom that the relevant international regimes and conventions are adhered to. In order to do this DECC looks to work closely with organisations such as the Atomic Energy Authority and the Organisation for the prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

DECC represents the UK in the Urenco Joint Committee, set up under the Treaty of Almelo (1970) that encourages close co-operation between the Urenco enrichment enterprises in Germany, The Netherlands and the UK. Today, along with the US, they form the Urenco Group.

DECC is committed to providing assistance on behalf of the UK to help tackle nuclear non-proliferation, security, safety, and associated legacy challenges in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union (FSU).

All of our non-proliferation work is done in partnership with other organisations and Government Departments.
