Atlas of UK Marine Renewable Energy Resources: Technical Report

URN No: 04/1532

In September 2003, the then Department of Trade and Industry commissioned a study to produce an Atlas of the UK Marine Renewable Energy Resources. The study team, led by ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd, comprises four leading UK organisations in marine science and offshore wind energy, namely:

  • ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd
  • Garrad Hassan & Partners Ltd
  • Met Office
  • Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory

The purpose of the Atlas is to quantify and spatially map the potential wave, tidal and offshore wind resource at a regional scale across the limits of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). The Atlas is designed to provide a useful reference of regionally based information to assist decision makers in licensing future rounds of offshore marine renewable technologies. The Atlas has been built from the best source of wave, tide and offshore wind information presently available across the UKCS.
