Good Practice & Community Involvement in Wind Energy Developments - Introduction

The Renewables Advisory Board (RAB) commissioned several reports on community involvement in wind energy developments and this best practice guidance is available from this web site.  The guidance is intended for a broad audience: local planning authorities, wind developers, local authorities officers dealing with community development and the communities themselves.

The guidance is intended to encourage community involvement in wind energy development in the overall UK policy context where renewable energy development and community involvement in planning are both encouraged.  The specific guidance on this site gives more details about relevant policies and existing guidance.

Different parts of the guidance will be appropriate for different audiences and at different stages in the process.

The Renewables Advisory Board (RAB) also commissioned the 'Onshore Wind Energy Planning Conditions Guidance Note'.  The aim of the Guidance Note is to provide advice on the appropriate types of planning conditions relevant to wind energy development. This advice incorporates information already present within existing planning guidance, provides additional advice regarding the use of planning conditions and outlines generic conditions for use in wind energy developments.  The Guidance Note is available via the Guidance for Local Authority Officers page.

NB this guidance builds on two previous reports commissioned by RAB:
