23 October 2008 – ‘Solutions for Business – funded by government’ announced

The government has announced a streamlined package of publicly funded business support products called 'Solutions for Business – funded by government'. Products will share a common look and feel and be available via Business Link. Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise, revealed that 30 ‘Solutions for Business’ products will be in place early next year in a speech to the Northern Regeneration Summit.

24 September 2008 - Local Authorities to trial new business support programme

A group of Local Authorities will trial the Government's new Business Support Simplification Programme. This will involve different aspects of programme delivery to ensure smooth delivery as it rollouts across the UK.

28 May 2008 - Business support at the Local Level published

Business Support at the Local Level published jointly by BERR and CLG aims to help local authorities understand the implications of BSSP. It also sets out how BSSP fits with the Local Performance Framework and the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration (SNR).

14 April 2008 - Chair of the Transition Management Board appointed

Martin Temple, current Chair of the manufacturers' organisation EEF, will take up the position of Chair of the Transition Management Board for the Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP). The Board will oversee the Government’s drive to simplify government-funded support for businesses.

Business Minister Shriti Vadera said, This is an important appointment to ensure delivery of our commitment to simplify and ease the access of our support for growing businesses. I am confident Martin’s long experience and perspective from businesses using business support will be invaluable.

12 March 2008 - Government outlines vision for business support

Simple Support, Better Business: business support in 2010, which outlines what the business support landscape will look like in the future, has been published by the Government. The document gives a timeline for the launch of a high-level portfolio of government funded support products that will help companies address generic business issues.
