Compliance Visits Explained

This guidance manual explains the Compliance process for holders of export control licences.

ECO needs to be sure that an export licence user has the necessary systems and procedures in place to administer open licences, that they are familiar with export control legislation as it applies to their business and particularly circumstances, and that knowledge is correct and current.

The intention is to demystify the process and allow companies to prepare fully so both sides can get maximum benefit from the visit.

The document explains:

  • why compliance visits occur
  • what happens before, during and after the visit
  • some of the penalties that companies might face if they are found to be non-compliant.
  • additionally, it points to some specific issues with Open General Licences, which exporters might find helpful.
