1 December 2008The UK has now implemented the Export Control (Iran) (Amendment) Order 2008 following the adoption of new sanctions on Iran. See Notice to Exporters 2008/22 for direct link to the new legislation.

As of 10 November 2008, the UK has reviewed its policy towards nuclear-related exports to India. Access information on exporting non-conventional and dual-use items to India and Pakistan. 29 October 2008Report suspicious customs activities
Are you aware of any suspicious or illegal customs activity involving the export of military or dual-use goods? If you are, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) would appreciate any information you can provide. Contact HMRC's free and confidential Customs Hotline.

1 October 2008The new Open General Trade Control Licences (Category C Goods and Small Arms) are now available. See Notice to Exporters 2008/20 which provides further details and copies of the new licences.

2 September 2008As of 1 October 2008 amendments will be made to the Open General Trade Control Licence (OGTCL) structure. View details of the changes by reading Notice to Exporters 2008/19.

28 August 2008All SIEL, SITCL, OIEL and OITCL licence holders should be aware of the permitted amendments to issued licences. In particular, as of 1st October any requests for changes to existing paper licences will result in exporters needing to re-apply via SPIRE. For details see Notice to Exporters 2008/18.

22 August 2008The guidance on Compliance Visits Explained has been updated. This document outlines the work of Compliance Officers and what ECO expects from exporters. The guidance includes information on the suspension and revocation of OGLs

The Government's annual report on Strategic Export Controls for 2007 has just been published. The report includes information on licensing decisions made during 2007 as well as describing UK policy and international developments in export control regimes.The report is available on the FCO website.

New extra-territorial trade controls are being introduced on small arms, MANPADs and cluster munitions. These changes are due to be implemented on 1st October 2008 via amending legislation. All exporters should be aware of the Secretary of State's power to suspend and revoke licences. The attached notice NTE200812 (along with the associated guidance note) explains the circumstances when open general licences (OGLs) may be suspended or revoked.
