The CCPO is seeking confirmation of participation in a Clean Development Mechanism Trade Mission to Kenya and Uganda, 26th - 30th January 2009 (PLEASE SEE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA BELOW). Please confirm your interest by 28th November.
The role of the Climate Change Projects Office (CCPO) is to act as the UK Government's primary contact for business on climate change projects under the Kyoto Mechanisms (Clean Development Mechanism, Joint Implementation and International Emissions Trading). CCPO supports and promotes UK private sector involvement in these projects.
CCPO has taken Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) trade missions to around 20 non-Annex 1 countries since 2004. We are now pleased to announce a CDM business opportunity and capacity building trade mission to Kenya and Uganda. The mission is supported by the British High Commissions in Nairobi and Kampala and the Kenyan and Ugandan Designated National Authorities, and aims to encourage greater UK - Kenya/Uganda cooperation in CDM project finance, development and other associated services.
The mission will follow a slightly different format to previous CCPO events with increased emphasis on capacity building as well as forming CDM business partnerships. For the seminar we will ask each company to focus on an area of the CDM process within their expertise, using case studies applicable to the East African context, explaining what worked, what didn't and the lessons learnt. There will also be time for 1-1 business meetings and organised discussions with key Kenyan and Ugandan CDM figures in the government and private sector.
The draft itinerary is below:
Nairobi, Kenya
25/01/09: Arrival and briefing dinner (pm)
26/01/09: Trade mission seminar and possible 1-1 meetings. Embassy networking reception
27/01/09: Possible 1-1 meetings. Roundtable meeting/site visit for UK companies with key Kenyan CDM players
28/01/09: Travel to Kampala. Option to spend extra time in Nairobi. The British High Commission can arrange tailored meetings (see below) for companies if required.

28/01/09: Arrival
29/01/09: Trade mission seminar and possible 1-1 meetings. Embassy networking reception
30/01/09: Possible 1-1 meetings. Roundtable meeting/site visit for UK companies with key Ugandan CDM figures (in cooperation with the Ugandan Carbon Bureau)
For any interested companies staying longer in Kampala, the Ugandan Carbon Bureau may be able to arrange site visits to CDM projects in Uganda.
Charges
There will be no charges to British companies taking part in the main trade mission programme (seminars, 1-1 meetings with audience members and delegation roundtables/visits). The UK Trade and Investment teams in the British High Commissions can offer additional services, such as market research in advance of the mission, or arrangements of tailored meeting programmes for individual companies. These services, and any visits organised by the Uganda Carbon Bureau, are likely to be chargeable.
